Moses Kotane local Municipality held its 1st Virtual Meeting

Mogwase- on the 14th May 2020, the Moses Kotane Local Municipality held its first-ever Virtual joint Portfolio Committee of Finance and Planning comprising of 24 people connected in different locations, following the Minister of COGTA who encouraged municipalities that they can manage the municipal operations during Covid-19 through use of media platforms such as tele-conferencing and video-Conferencing.
Therefore, the Moses Kotane Local Municipality’s leadership agreed that service delivery as well as compliance related matters cannot be compromised by Covid-19 Lockdown hence today’s 1st Virtual joint portfolio Committee of Finance and Planning.
After the success of its 1st Virtual attempt of tapping on technology for the advancement and taking this municipality forward during Covid-19, the municipality aims to hold next Executive Committee (EXCO), Council Meetings etc using virtual or media platforms.
When interviewed after the meeting, the Portfolio Head of Finance Cllr Lawrence Kapari stated that indeed he is happy that the municipality tapped on the use of technology for municipal operations and governance that were hugely affected during this time. As the Municipality, we will continue where we left off before Lockdown with regard to smooth running of the municipality, all compliance related issues and other operations relating to municipal services will be prioritized.
The Portfolio head of Finance Cllr kapari further stated that he has enjoyed this 1st ever virtual meeting and is happy with how 24 participants engaged, and overall smooth running of the meeting. Indeed as Moses Kotane we are ready to thrive with the forth industrial Revolution demands commonly known as 4IR. I concur that even in future beyond Covid-19 we will continue using Technology to hold some meetings which will at the same time reduce travelling time for some councilors to physically come to the municipality.
