As part of commemorating Nelson Mandela Month, Sun City, the Department of Economic Development, Environment, Conservation and Tourism (DEDECT), Moses Kotane Local Municipality, the Department of Human Settlements, and other strategic partners officially handed over two fully built houses to the Malefo and Singini families, both child-headed households.
The initiative well attended by Sun City, Sun International, Moses Kotane Local Municipality, the Department of Economic Development, Environment, Conservation and Tourism (DEDECT), the Department of Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs (COGHSTA), Mankwe Game Trackers, and other stakeholders, restored hope and dignity to the beneficiary families while demonstrating the lasting impact of collaborative efforts in transforming lives.
In the spirit of Nelson Mandela’s call to dedicate 67 minutes towards serving humanity, stakeholders participated in several activities aimed at ensuring the sustainability of the initiative. These included establishing household food gardens to promote food security, cleaning the newly handed-over homes, and engaging directly with the beneficiary families to offer support and encouragement.
Representing Sun City, Mr Tebogo Mokgejane explained that the initiative was driven by employees who identify community projects capable of making a meaningful impact. He noted that the Malefo and Singini families were nominated because they are child-headed households requiring urgent intervention and support.
The initiative serves as a reminder that the legacy of Nelson Mandela extends beyond a single day of service. It calls on all sectors of society to continue working together to uplift vulnerable communities and make every day a Mandela Day through compassion, partnership and meaningful action.
