The North West Department of Health, with the support of Moses Kotane Local Municipality, Department of Home Affairs successfully hosted the Tshela Ka Itekanelo and 1.1 Million Gap Campaign at Pitsedisulejang Sports Ground, reaffirming government’s commitment to improving access to quality healthcare and other essential public services for rural communities.
The two-day campaign formed part of the provincial drive to strengthen primary healthcare by taking integrated government services directly to communities. The initiative focused on promoting healthy lifestyles, preventing disease, encouraging early health screening, improving access to HIV and TB services, reducing stigma, and empowering residents through health education to improve their overall quality of life.
The campaign also supports the National Department of Health’s objective of closing the “1.1 Million Gap” by identifying individuals who are unaware of their HIV status, linking them to life-saving treatment, improving treatment adherence, and accelerating progress towards ending HIV and TB as public health threats.
The programme commenced with a 5 km fun walk, followed by aerobics sessions, health activations, and various sporting activities.
The campaign concluded on the second day with exciting soccer and netball finals. Bojanala Netball Team emerged as the netball champions, while Basebo FC claimed victory in the soccer tournament. The winning teams were awarded sports kits, medals, and trophies in recognition of their outstanding performances and commitment to promoting healthy, active communities.
The success of the Tshela Ka Itekanelo Campaign demonstrates the importance of partnerships between government departments, municipalities, healthcare professionals, and communities in promoting wellness and expanding access to quality healthcare services.
