MKLM, through its Local Economic Development (LED) Unit, has successfully concluded a three-day theatre auditions programme aimed at identifying local talent, nurturing young artists, and stimulating opportunities within the creative economy through a six-month theatre capacity-building programme.
The auditions were held at Ledig Tribal Hall on 21 July 2026, Mogwase Unit 1 Sports Park on 22 July 2026, and Mphe Batho Museum in Moruleng on 23 July 2026.
The programme attracted a large number of aspiring actors and performers from across the municipality who showcased their talents before an experienced panel of judges.
The initiative forms part of the Municipality’s ongoing commitment to creating opportunities for local artists, supporting skills development, and growing the arts and cultural sector.
Mayor of Moses Kotane Local Municipality, Cllr Nketu Nkotswe, expressed her appreciation to everyone who participated in the auditions. She said the overwhelming response demonstrated the abundance of talent within the municipality and reaffirmed the Municipality’s commitment to investing in local artists.
Representing the Bakubung Ba Ratheo Traditional Council on day 1 of the auditions at Ledig, Princess Maria Monnakgotla congratulated all participants for embracing the opportunity to showcase their abilities. She noted that the programme plays an important role in empowering young people while promoting arts, culture, and heritage within local communities.
From the LED unit ,Mr Phumlani Jalvan represented and coordinated the three auditions.

• Mr Tshepo Makinita,
• And Mr Lesego Tshelane,
Following the auditions, 20 participants were selected to participate in the six-month theatre development programme. Successful candidates will sign contracts before commencing training and workshops.
The programme is accredited at NQF Level 4 and carries 53 credits, equipping participants with nationally recognised skills, practical theatre experience, and enhanced career opportunities within the creative industry.
Through this initiative, Moses Kotane Local Municipality seeks to develop local artistic talent, strengthen the creative economy, encourage community participation in arts and culture, and create sustainable opportunities for employment and entrepreneurship.
