Moses Kotane Local Municipality Successfully Hosts Public Auction


Moses Kotane Local Municipality in partnership with Root -X Auctioneers successfully concluded a Public Auction of municipal assets, on Tuesday, 19 August 2025 at the municipal Transpord Yard and Bodirile Industrial Area ( Municipal store).
The event drew strong participation from community members, local businesses and who actively participated in the transparent and competitive bidding process. The auction fratured a variety of surplus municipal assets, including vehicles, office furniture and equipment that were no longer in active use but remained in good condition.
By opening the auction to the public, the municipality ensured that resources were put back into productive use while generating much needed revenue.
MKLM Manager: Assets Management, Mr. Mothei Ramagaga, praised the the success of the auction, noting that it affirmed the municipality’s commitment to accountability and openess ” We are proud of the turnout and the fair process that unfolded, by making these assets available to the public, the municipality not only reduced maintenance costs of unused items but also ensured that communities benefit directly through revenue raised for service delivery projects” said Mr. Ramagaga.
Local businesses and community members expressed appreciation for the opportunity to acquire quality municipal assets at affordable prices. Many participants emphasized that such auctions strengthen local economic activity, enabling small businesses to access equipment and vehicles that support their operations.
The proceeds from the auction will be reinvested into the municipality’s priority service delivery programs, this realocation of funds highlights the municipality’s commitment to sustainable governance and ensured resources serve the broader public interest. Additionally the disposal of inactive assets will save the municipality ongoing maintenance and storage costs, thereby improving financial efficiency and asset management practices.
The auction has been widely applauded by stakeholders as a reflection of MKLM’s commitment to accountability, transparency and responsible governance.The inclusive and competitive nature of the process also contributed to strengthening public trust and community confidence in the municipality’s operations.
Mr. Ramagaga further said simillar initiatives would also be explored in the future to promote accountability, stimulate local economic development and ensure communities continue to benefit directly from transparent municipal practices.
