Deputy Minister Sello Seitlholo Conducts Oversight Visit to Vaalkop Dam to address Water Sustainability in Moses Kotane, Rustenburg, Bojanala and entire Communities
In a concerted effort to tackle escalating water challenges and ensure sustainable water resources for the Moses Kotane, as well as other communities, Deputy Minister of Water and Sanitation, Sello Seitlholo, embarked on a comprehensive oversight visit to Vaalkop Dam and its upstream water sources on June 27–28, 2025.
During the physical inspection of the Vaalkop dam and treatment plant, it was also found that invasive vegetation known as water hyacinth had grown in some areas of the dam, upsetting the natural equilibrium and posing serious problems for the water treatment procedures, additionally negatively affecting water supply to all our communities.
The various stakeholders are exerting every effort to guarantee that partnerships for sustainable water are priotized and that communities in the Moses Kotane Local Municipality, Rustenburg, Thabazimbi, and all water users experiencing water supply interruptions as a result of these challenges are taken into consideration.
