MPAC Conducts Projects Oversight Visits

The Municipal Public Accounts Committee (MPAC), led by Chairperson Cllr Nono Matshereng, conducted a two-day oversight visit on 3–4 September 2025 to assess progress on projects within the municipality.

The purpose of the oversight visit was to monitor the implementation of municipal projects and ensure they are delivered in line with approved plans, budgets, and timelines.

The visit also aimed to promote accountability and transparency in the use of public funds while identifying challenges that may hinder effective service delivery.

On the first day, Cllr Matshereng was accompanied by Cllr Rebaone Rampe and Cllr Beauty Chabedi. She emphasized that the committee’s responsibility is to ensure public funds are utilized effectively, projects progress according to plan, and challenges are addressed promptly.
At the Segakwaneng Water Supply Project, which is 98% complete, Mr. Benjamin Mashaba from the Municipal Project Management Unit (PMU) presented the project scope and outlined challenges such as hard rock encountered during excavation and issues involving local SMMEs.

The committee also inspected the Ramoga Community Hall, where they observed serious structural defects including wall cracks, ceiling damage, and signs of a weakening foundation.

Further oversight was conducted at the Lerome Water Project (Thabeng Section), where concerns were raised that some households still do not have access to water.

Day two of the oversight visit began in Mogwase, where Cllr Matshereng was joined by Cllr Motsoasele, Cllr Rampe, Cllr Molefe, and Cllr Pilane.

The committee assessed the Mogwase Asbestos Pipe Replacement Project, which currently stands at 97% completion and is expected to be finalized by 25 September 2025. PMU representative Mr. Moranye presented the project progress report, outlining the scope of work and assuring the committee that the project was on track.

The final visit was to the Ledig Water Supply Project, where the committee inspected progress and outstanding challenges.
