Moses Kotane Local Municipality celebrates a JM Ntsime young leader, ORORISENG MPETE from Mantserre Village
Ororiseng Mpete, a 16-year-old Grade 11 learner , recently participated in the Oral History Competition under the theme:
“Introducing the G20: The Role of the G20 in Funding Public Education to Promote Quality Foundational Teaching and Professional Teacher Development.”
Starting at the district level, Ororiseng obtained 1st position, advanced to the provincial rounds where she again achieved 1st position, and went on to represent our province at the national competition in East London, where she proudly secured 3rd place! 🏅
Her journey didn’t end there — Ororiseng also attended the Robben Island Spring School Camp, themed:
“Lessons Learned from Robben Island by the G20.”
Her team shone brightly, achieving 1st position for their presentation and 2nd position for their cultural performance.
💬 In Her Own Words – Reflection by Ororiseng:
“Learning about the G20 helped me understand how powerful international cooperation can be in improving education. The G20 encourages countries to invest in public education, strengthen foundational skills, and support teacher development. When countries work together, every child, no matter where they live, can have the chance to learn and succeed.”
Reflecting on her experience at Robben Island, Ororiseng shared:
“The leadership of Nelson Mandela, Walter Sisulu, Govan Mbeki, and Ahmed Kathrada teaches us that true leadership is about service, unity, and staying true to one’s values. Their courage shaped South Africa’s democracy and reminds us that leadership begins in our schools, families, and communities. As young Africans, our traditions, languages, and values like Botho give us strength and identity — guiding us to build a united and just Africa.”
Ororiseng’s passion for leadership continues — she is currently running for President at JM Ntsime Secondary School! 🗳️
