Moses Kotane Local Municipality in partnership with the North West Department of Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs (COGHSTA) handed over newly built houses to three deserving military veterans on 13 June 2025.
The handover ceremony took place in Bapong II and Mabele-a-Pudi, marking yet another step in government’s ongoing efforts to improve the lives of those who have served the country.
The event was led by MEC for COGHSTA, Hon. Malapisi, who personally handed over the keys to the beneficiaries, acknowledging their sacrifices and years of committed service.
The beneficiaries included Mr. Dan Sekhute, who dedicated 10 years to solidarity operations; Mr. Mandlane, who served the country for 9 years; and Mr. Ditshwene, who is currently deployed and was represented by his sister, Ms. Catherine Ditshwene.
In their remarks, the beneficiaries expressed heartfelt gratitude to government for the support and recognition shown to military veterans.
They emphasized that the provision of housing not only offers shelter but restores dignity, honouring the years they devoted to serving South Africa.
However, they also raised concerns that many veterans are still waiting for similar assistance and urged the government to accelerate the housing programme for military veterans still living under difficult conditions.
Addressing these concerns, MEC Molapisi acknowledged the challenges faced in the rollout of the housing programme but assured the veterans that the department remains committed to ensuring that every eligible veteran eventually receives a house.
He further indicated plans to convene another meeting with relevant departments to directly engage veterans and provide clear updates on the progress and timelines.
The handover forms part of government’s broader programme aimed at restoring dignity and improving the quality of life for military veterans who have served the nation with distinction.
It stands as a demonstration of government’s appreciation for their selfless sacrifices and a commitment to leave no one behind.
