The Department of Local Economic Development provides to build up the economic capacity of a local area and to improve its economic future. The aim of LED is to create employment opportunities for local residents, alleviate poverty, and redistribute resources and opportunities to the benefit of all local residents. The role of the Department in the municipality includes to support the following sectors:
* Agriculture, Agro Processing and Rural Development
* Arts, Culture (Creative Industry) and Sports Development
* Business support
* Expanded Public Works Programme
