To prepare for the forthcoming games, Inter-Municipal Sports South Africa (IMSSA) convened a special summit at Moses Kotane Local Municipality from June 11–13, 2025. The Deputy President and Treasurer participated virtually in the conference, which included all 20 members of the National Executive Committee (NEC).
Acting Mayor Dithothi Tshetlhane welcomed everyone warmly and conveyed her gratitude for IMSSA’s choice to host their meeting in the Moses Kotane Local Municipality’s headquarters. She underlined the event’s importance and the municipality’s delight in organising such a significant event.
Confirmation that finance is available to host the 2025 games was one of the meeting’s main outcomes. To be eligible to host, municipalities must be formally linked with IMSSA and offer a specific workplace for the NEC members.
Delegates were also welcomed by the Municipal Manager, Mr. Mokopane Letsoalo, who pledged full support to the association. He acknowledged the vital role IMSSA plays in promoting employee wellness through sport and committed to ongoing collaboration.
The conference was led by IMSSA Deputy President Mr. Nhlamulo Makumbila, Secretary General Mr. Thandy Matebese, and Deputy Secretary General Mrs. Semphethe Mosweusweu. They marked a key moment in the organisation’s journey. A significant outcome was the official adoption of a newly amended constitution following thoughtful review and consideration. This milestone ensures that IMSSA’s governance structures are aligned with its strategic vision and future goals.
The Special National Conference of IMSSA is a significant annual event, and it was an exciting moment for Moses Kotane Local Municipality (MKLM) to host it for the first time. With delegates from various municipalities across South Africa in attendance, the event proved to be a landmark gathering. The emphasis on reviewing the constitution and internal policies fostered meaningful dialogue, collaboration, and progress. MKLM’s hosting of the conference demonstrates its commitment to supporting sports development and effective municipal governance. The MKLM IMSSA Committee played an active role, working alongside the Municipal Manager and the Acting Mayor to ensure the success of the event.
The 2025 IMSSA Games are scheduled to take place from 21 to 26 September, with Moses Kotane teams set to participate at the SADAG Region Level in Lesotho. They will compete against teams from Botswana, Namibia, Lesotho, South Africa and other neighbouring countries. The previous edition of the games was hosted successfully by Buffalo City Municipality.
IMSSA continues to be an active affiliate of the Southern African Inter-Municipal Sports Association (SAIMSA), a regional body dedicated to the wellness of municipal employees and employers throughout the SADC region.
