Moses Kotane Local Municipality intensifies Revenue Collection Drive to Sustain Service Delivery

On 18 June 2025, The Moses Kotane Local Municipality intensified its credit control measures as part of a broader strategy to boost revenue Collection and enhance service delivery. The campaign, led by Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Mr. Mzwandile Mkhize and a dedicated team from Budget and Treasury Office as well as Infrastructure& Technical Services. Today’s campaign targeted businesses clients around the Mogwase area to enforce disconnections on defaulting clients.
The campaign aims to address the rising challenge of non- payment for Municipal services such as water, sanitation, waste removal, and property rates. Many households and businesses have accumulated significant arrears, which has had a direct impact on the Municipality’s ability to deliver consistent and quality services to communities.
During the visits, Mr. Mkhize emphasized the Municipality’s commitment to accountability and financial discipline “We need to increase out revenue Collection to enable sustained service delivery. When businesses and residents don’t meet their municipal obligations, our operations suffer. This directly affects service delivery to the very same communities we serve” said the CFO.
He further stated that the municipality understands the financial strain faced by some residents and businesses, but highlighted the importance of responsible behavior ” We encourage all consumers to come forward and make payment arrangements where necessary. We remain open to engagements and settlements”
The revenue collection drive forms part of a broader financial recovery plan aligned with the municipality’s Integrated Development Plan (IDP) and Medium-Term Revenue and Expenditure Framework (MTREF). The plan includes improving billing accuracy, enhancing debt recovery strategies and strengthening customer engagement through outreach programs.
It is also worth noting that the team disconnected clients who had repeatedly ignored payment notices and failed to respond to communication from the municipality.
The campaign has already yielded results, whith many affected clients approaching the municipality to make payment arrangements.
The Moses Kotane Local Munipality remains committed to transparent governance and efficient service delivery, and calls on all stakeholders to support the campaign and encourage payment of municipality accounts.
