MKLM Partners with Junior Achievement South Africa (JASA) and Mankwe Orbit College to Empower Youth Through Robotics and Digital Skills as well as honouring the dedicated individuals who contributed to the implementation of this innovation.
Mogwase- Moses Kotane Local Municipality (MKLM), through the Office of the Mayor, has embarked on a groundbreaking collaboration with Junior Achievement South Africa (JASA) and Mankwe Orbit College to empower young people with future-focused skills in robotics, artificial intelligence, programming, work readiness, and entrepreneurship.
This forward-looking partnership aligns with the municipality’s commitment to investing in youth development and preparing the next generation of leaders to thrive in a rapidly evolving digital economy.
To honour the dedicated individuals and institutions who contributed to the development and implementation of this pioneering programme, MKLM Mayor Cllr Nketu Nkotswe presented Special Mayoral Recognition Awards aimed at celebrating innovation and collaboration.
A Strategic Collaboration for Economic Empowerment
MKLM carefully selected this partnership based on a shared vision of equipping young people with the competencies essential for economic success. Through the expertise of Junior Achievement South Africa and Mankwe Orbit College, participants are exposed to a wide range of development areas, including:

- Programming, robotics, and artificial intelligence

Speaking on behalf of Junior Achievement South Africa Ms Kefilwe Segabetla emphasised that entrepreneurship mentorship is a fundamental part of the programme.She highlighted that JASA’s mission is to “provide the skills and confidence for young people to start their own businesses and become job creators.” This approach aims to cultivate self-sufficient, socially responsible leaders capable of shaping a sustainable economic future.
Robotics Excellence at Mankwe Orbit College
Representing Mankwe Orbit College, Mr Matlou reiterated the institution’s commitment to advancing digital and technical education. He explained that the Orbit college already offers a comprehensive robotics programme within the Information Communication Technology (ICT) and Programming & Robotics disciplines.The programme forms part of the National Certificate: Vocational (NCV) qualification, with specialised subjects such as: - Robotics Fundamentals (Level 2)
- Introduction to Robotics (Level 3)
These courses provide students with hands-on training and a strong technical foundation, positioning them to compete in global industries driven by technology and innovation.
Leadership Committed to Innovation and Development
In her address, Mayor Cllr Nketu Nkotswe applauded the partnership as a shining example of how public-private collaborations can uplift communities.
