The Infrastructure ITS Portfolio Committee is still ongoing with Operation #Maintain — the high mast lights and water at various villages including Phalane, Manamela, Makoshong, and Mabeskraal.
To assess the ability to stabilize infrastructure in five villages, the Infrastructure Portfolio Committee implemented an oversight program. The goal was to determine if the villages had access to street lighting, water supply, etc.
Most importantly, to educate locals that Eskom is still required to distribute electricity throughout the municipality.
Most of the boreholes at Mabeskraal were discovered to be functioning properly and delivering water as anticipated. However, a problem with the JoJo tank — insufficient, damaged to store water — was noted as a concern.
The municipality is already working to maintain or replace the damaged JoJo tank.
Most of the high mast lights in Makoshong, Phalane, and Manamela villages were noted non-functional, and they will be included in the planning for the upcoming financial year.
