Ms Phyllis Adalette introduced the distinguished guests, while SALGA Provincial Director of Operations, Ms Desire Tlhoaele, outlined the purpose of the day, emphasising the importance of strategic partnerships in combating poverty, inequality and food insecurity.

As part of the day’s activities, stakeholders participated in cleaning, painting and gardening at St Catherine Hospice to improve the facility and create a more welcoming environment for its residents. Donations of food parcels, toiletries, blankets, tracksuits and gardening equipment were handed over to the hospice.

In promoting literacy and education, Nal’ibali donated books and newspapers to encourage a culture of reading, while Child Welfare South Africa, in partnership with the Morula Foundation, donated books to the Mogwase and Sefikile Libraries to support learning and educational development within the community.

The Nelson Mandela Day commemoration demonstrated the power of collaboration between government, the private sector and civil society in responding to the needs of vulnerable communities. On Thursday, 23 April 2026, Lerome Mositwana Community Hall was a hive of activity as the second round of IDP and Budget consultations took centre stage. The session brought together community members from Wards 10, 11, 12, 15, 16, and 17, who actively participated through questions, suggestions, and requests for clarity on proposed projects and budget allocations.

Proceedings began with a formal welcome and the introduction of councillors, municipal officials, and key stakeholders.

Cllr Dithoti Tshetlhane, MMC for Planning and Development, outlined the purpose of the meeting, emphasizing that the session focused on engaging the community on the draft IDP/Budget 2026/2027 financial year.

Chief Financial Officer, Mr Mzwandile Mkhize, presented the draft budget, detailing how funds are proposed to be allocated across various municipal projects. He further emphasized the importance of financial sustainability, responsible spending, and prioritising critical service delivery needs within the municipality’s limited resources.

Ms. Gontse Sekudu, from Siyanda Bakgatla Platinum Mine (SBPM) in her presentation highlighted completed projects and planned initiatives, including infrastructure development, healthcare services, and youth-focused programmes such as bursaries, internet access, as well as the Mine’s plan to create more employment opportunities.

Councillors also presented a range of projects, outlining their scope, budget allocations, and current implementation status. Community members were then given an opportunity to voice their concerns, share inputs, and make suggestions regarding the proposed plans. Notably, residents also offered constructive suggestions aimed at enhancing municipal revenue and strengthening financial sustainability.

This engagement forms part of the municipality’s continued commitment to transparency, accountability, and collaborative governance, ensuring that communities play a meaningful role in shaping service delivery priorities.

Ms. Gontse Sekudu from Siyanda Bakgatla Platinum Mine presented the Social Labor Plans (SLP), outlining several initiatives aimed at enhancing community welfare and development. She emphasized the mine’s commitment to responsible mining practices and mentioned other successful projects that have positively impacted local communities, such as infrastructure development, educational programs, and health services.

Throughout the session, community members voiced their concerns and sought clarification on various service delivery issues, including the state of internal roads, challenges with water supply, the need for high mast light installations, and plans for electrifying new households. Residents also took the opportunity to acknowledge the municipality’s progress in several areas.

The Moses Kotane Local Municipality, through the Office of the Speaker, convened an Integrated Intergovernmental Stakeholders Forum aimed at strengthening coordinated and comprehensive service delivery to communities.

The meeting brought together key stakeholders from various sector departments, including Home Affairs, department of employment & labour, the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC), Community Development Workers (CDWs), community activists, municipal officials, and councillors. The session was chaired by the Speaker of Council, Cllr Maria Matshaba, and co-chaired by Mr Ntsamai.

Cllr Precious Muleya officially opened the session by lighting a candle as a symbol of hope and unity, followed by a prayer for togetherness and harmony.

Mr Nkhensani Ndlovu, Manager for Mankwe Home Affairs department, emphasised the importance of collaboration between government departments and communities in delivering integrated services. He presented the department’s 2025/2026 performance, highlighting key achievements, updates on smart ID card applications, collections, as well as outreach programmes. The deployment of mobile units across Moses Kotane East and West was noted as a critical initiative to bring services closer to rural communities.

Ms Daisy Sekgapane from the IEC provided updates on local government matters and voter registration. She encouraged community members to actively participate in the democratic process and to utilise online voter registration platforms for convenience and efficiency.

Representatives from various sector departments also shared updates on ongoing government programmes assisting communities in various areas.

The forum attended by Mayor Cllr Nketu Nkotswe, Singlewhip Cllr Moate, Speaker Cllr Maria Matshaba and all key role players reaffirmed the importance of integrated planning, collaboration, and community involvement in accelerating service delivery.
