MEC for Community Safety and Transport Management Hon. Sello Lehare embark on Decontamination of Mogwase Taxi Rank

Mogwase- As part of many initiatives by the government to fight against covid19 , MEC Hon. Sello Lehari embarked on a Decontamination or Disinfection of Mogwase Taxi rank to help curb the spread of covid19 in public transport.

The MEC Hon. Sello Lehari was accompanied by Mayor Cllr Ralesole Diale, MMC for Community Services Cllr Victor Kheswa, MMC for Infrastructure and Technical Services Cllr Bushy Manganye and the Chairperson of SANTACO Mr Sebego.

When delivering the purpose of the day the MEC stated that “We are here today as the department, embarking on Decontamination of Taxi Ranks that has been happening throughout NW Province. With this Program our aim is to ensure taxi Ranks are Safe place to be with regard to Covid-19. MEC Lehari concluded by encouraging both taxi operators and Commuters to continue sanitizing their hands, keep social distancing and wearing their mask.”

Mayor Cllr Ralesole Diale stated that, We thank the department for providing support in the fight against covid19 and to ensure that those that rely on public transport are safe, as we all know that the vast majority of our communities are relying on public transport on daily basis and therefore it is important that this taxis are safe for them said Mayor.

Local Command Team Covid-19 Awareness Campaign

On the 07th August 2020, Local Command Team successfully embarked on an Awareness and Education Campaign on Combating Covid-19.

Various Committee Members such as Mayor Cllr Ralesole Diale, Acting Speaker Cllr George Moatshe, MMC Cllr Lawrence Kapari, Municipal Manager Mr Letsoalo, Director Kotsedi, Chief Traffic together with SAPS, SANDF, BPDM fire, Provincial Traffic, GCIS, MKLM Traffic, Department of Health led a Successful, effective Awareness Campaign.

The day’s activities included Visiting various Hotspot namely Moruleng Mall, Sunfontein Usave, Mogwase complex, Sun Village and lastly Moses Kotane Hospital where Mayor and acting Speaker addressed & applauded Medical Frontliners. The activities in each Hotspot Visited include short Message on Precautionary Measures of Covid-19 as well as a Motorcade or Convoy with Lights on and Harzards.

The Campaign has indeed showed that, we are all one Government with a Common Goal of Combating and ending Covid-19.

Mayor Cllr Ralesole, encouraged all Communities to abide by Covid-19 Safety Measures such as wearing their Mask, Regularly washing Hands with Soap, Sanitizing. And appealed to Parents that kids are busy roaming the streets, playing soccer which may be risk in catching this Virus. Appealed to all to Stay at Home. Addressed Medical people that, they are acknowledged and supported.

Acting Speaker Cllr George Moatshe, encouraged all communities to pray daily at 12h00 and 19h00 so that this Virus can end. Encouraged all communities to continue abiding and implementing safety measures so as to save lives.

MMC Cllr Lawrence Kapari, encouraged communities to respect Lockdown regulations such as not more than 50 mourners to attend same funeral as this will contribute to more transmission of Covid-19.

Donation of Food parcels to local orphanage and old age homes

Indeed it cannot be denied that having Social Development on board have assisted the municipality with regard to ensuring local orphanage homes, Old age home or hospices should also be remembered during this time.

On this day, Saturday the 25th April 2020, The Municipality together with Sun International decided to visit and spend time with people housed at various social care facilities.

The Portfolio Head of Corporate Services Clr Thapelo Thoboke Whom temporarily provide oversight for both Social Development & Sassa, was accompanied by Director Kotsedi as well as Sun International officials and distributed 12 food parcels to various social care facilities/ NPO/ NGOs.

Amongst the social housing care facilities that received food are : Tsoga Re Thuse,
Ledig feeding scheme and awareness,
ST Catherine Hospice,
Botshabelo crisis Centre,
Re A Baitumelela, Sepharama and Dimakatso Safe House.

MINISTER OF THE POLICE HON. BHEKI HAMILTON CELE VISITS MKLM HOTSPOTS

Moruleng Mall: On the 31st March 2020, Minister of Police Hon. Bheki Cele together with leadership of the Moses Kotane Local Municipality held a Road Block on the R510 between Mogwase and Northam during which motorists were extensively encouraged to implement precautionary measures managing spread of Covid-19 such as regularly wash their hands with soap, avoid physical contact, taxis and buses were encouraged to maintain social distancing even inside the cars etc.

The Minister of Police then visited Moruleng Mall as it is identified as one of the Hotspots wherein lots of people flock in and a lot of non-compliance are experienced. Minister of Police Hon. Bheki Cele concluded his day by joining in the meeting with local Traditional leaders encouraging them to help Government in managing the Corona Virus within various communities.

MOSES KOTANE LOCAL MUNICIPALITY’S RESPONSE TO THE OUTBREAK OF CORONA- VIRUS (COVID-19)

Following the address by President Ramaphosa who declared a National state of disaster as a result of the Covid-19 outbreak in our country, on the 16th March 2020 the Moses Kotane Local Municipality Management called an urgent meeting with the Department of Health COVID-19 Response team.
The Moses Kotane local municipality is taking serious this medical emergency of the 62 declared positive cases of coronavirus outbreak in South Africa. Given the scale and the speed at which the virus is spreading, the Municipality through Disaster and Occupational Health & Safety units have partnered with sector departments, private sector in helping the municipality to prepare for, respond to, and mitigate the impacts of COVID-19 so as to keep its internal and external stakeholders safe. Noting that the health and wellness of residents and employees is the municipal main priority.
As part of the collective effort to reduce the spread of COVID-19, both internal and external stakeholders are encouraged to implement the following precautionary measures that include:

Regularly wash their hands with soaps or disinfectants.
Avoid physical contact such as shaking hands & Hugging.
Cover ourselves when we cough.
Meetings/ Gatherings of more than 100 are prohibited.
Intake of Vitamin C is highly recommended for boosting the immune system.
Businesses to implement safe hygiene practices etc.
The municipality have also aligned with the Department of Health’s intensification of novel corona virus awareness activities which include advocating more health promotion and health awareness information to be cascaded to all the 107 villages and two townships.
