Statement on the Special Council meeting
Mogwase – The Council of Moses Kotane Local Municipality had a special sitting on Tuesday, 21 November 2017 at the municipal chamber in Mogwase to note and approve the report on early warning signs on financial performance of the municipality that was tabled by the Municipal Manager, Mokopane Letsoalo. This was led by the poor revenue collection in the first quarter which affected the cash flow for the quarter.
As a result, the municipal financial commitments for first quarter were above the collected revenue. The Municipal Manager therefore put measures in place to curb further and future over- commitment of the budget by developing cost cutting measures through tabling of the early warning report to Council.
This should clarify false and malicious rumours that the municipality is bankrupt. The municipality had projected to collect over R75 million in revenue during the first quarter, however collected far less
The Council has condemned the disruptions of business operations at both Madikwe and Mogwase offices by members of business forum on 21 November 2017
Council reaffirms its commitment to deal with problems through dialogue rather than disruptions hence the roadmap with business forum through which feedback will be given while operations resume back to normal.
