The Moses Kotane Local Municipality’s Local Economic Development in partnership with the National Builders and Registration Council (NHBRC) and Small Enterprise Development Agency (SEDA) conducted a workshop for people leaving with disability at municipal offices in Mogwase. The workshop placed emphasis on skills development for historically disadvantaged home builders in order to accelerate their progression in the home building industry particularly women, youth and people leaving with disability.
NHBRC’s Training Officer, Patrick Ragau said that training programmes are aimed at developing and empowering contractors with technical requirements, as stipulated by the Home Builder Manual and the SAQA unit standards.
Skills provided by the NHBRC are:

• Plastering Skills Course
• Plumbing Skills Course
• Roofing Skills Course
• Painting Skills Course
• Management Skills
• Construction Management Course
• Construction Project Management Course
• Finance for Non-Financial Management Course
He mentioned that NHBRC has a budget allocated to assist people living with disability who want to venture into the building industry. Ragau further urged the participants to register their own companies and also with the NHBRC to start to build houses.”
Thabo Monyane of SEDA also encouraged participants to open their own companies and cooperatives.
